Le Prévent.

Pinned between two groynes in the heart of Capbreton, Le Prévent is a compact sand beach that produces steep, hollow bowls when a solid NW swell is running. The constrained geometry of the break shapes the peaks into fast, punchy sections that well up quickly and rarely offer more than a short burst before sectioning. A left peels toward the southern groyne, feeding into the rip that runs there on bigger swells, while a more consistent right holds shape at the north end. Rides are brief — typically under 50m — but the takeoffs are sharp and demand commitment. The break comes alive in winter, functioning as the default gathering point for intermediates and experienced surfers in the Capbreton area when heavier swells overwhelm or close out the more exposed beaches further along the coast. Timing the tide matters: low to mid is the window, with rising tide offering the cleanest shape. High tide kills it entirely, bringing close-outs and heavy backwash that make the inside unrideable. The beach is easily accessed from the town centre, though parking has become harder since the beachfront was pedestrianised. Surf schools operate here regularly, which adds to the volume of water users. Weekends draw large crowds of mixed ability, including bodyboarders, and the limited sandbank means peak fights are constant. Water quality can suffer near the estuary outlet after significant rainfall.
