La Gravière.

La Gravière is built on the site of an old gravel pit, and that geological quirk has given Hossegor's most famous stretch of sand its characteristic shallow, sucking bank. A-frame peaks lurch out of deep water, hit a shallow bar, and pitch thick, square lips with almost no warning. Waves here are genuinely freight-train fast - both left and right walls run hard before closing out or offering brief, intense barrel sections that demand an immediate commitment on takeoff. The wave length is short, often under 50 metres, but what happens inside that window is among the most intense tube riding in Europe. It has hosted the elite Quiksilver Pro on multiple occasions, cementing its status as a legitimate world-class arena, and it fires most reliably on NW swells in the 1-2.5m-plus range - though it has been surfed well into double overhead on its best days. Tidal range heavily shapes the session window, and swell period determines whether peaks line up cleanly or crumble into chaotic close-outs. Access is via Boulevard du Front de Mer (D79), with roadside parking available, and slatted boardwalk paths cut through the stabilised dune system down to the beach. The lineup is consistently packed with experienced surfers and resident pros, and localism runs deep - newcomers should read the water carefully before paddling out.
