Le Penon.

Le Penon is a sand-bottomed beachbreak on the Landes coast between Hossegor and the southern Seignosse beaches, producing a-frame peaks across a wide stretch of open shore. The break is characterised by slopey, fast-moving walls with well-covered sections and some steep take-off moments, working across all tides but producing the most entertaining shorebreak at higher water. Banks here are notoriously mobile - the old metal pier that once anchored sand in place is long gone, so peak quality varies considerably from week to week. On a solid NW swell in the 0.5-1.5m range the spot delivers genuinely enjoyable waves; above 2m the rips become a serious hazard and paddle-outs turn difficult. More reliable banks can be found further north toward Casernes, while the heavier, more consistent breaks of Les Bourdaines and Les Estagnots lie within 2km to the south. Le Penon sits at the northern boundary of the Seignosse beach system and draws a broad cross-section of surfers who prefer a less intense atmosphere than the famous breaks further south. The beach is accessed via a large free car park set behind the dunes, with straightforward walk-in entry across sand. Summer brings very heavy crowds both in and out of the water, driven by the adjacent tourist infrastructure. The spot is a practical choice for beginners and intermediates looking for open, forgiving peaks away from the heaviest lineups of the Hossegor zone.
