Casernes sits at the northern end of the Seignosse beach stretch, a sand-bottom A-frame that produces both lefts and rights off shifting peaks. The wave's character is variable: on smaller, clean NW swells it generates quick, bowly walls with a slopey face that builds and sections across short rides. At mid tide during a glass-off, the better-aligned banks produce steeper, faster walls that reward committed surfers willing to read the shifting peaks. The depth profile is mixed - sections can be shallow enough to feel punchy, while others well-cover and back off, so waves range from crumbly and forgiving to genuinely steep and snappy. Working across the full tidal range, it handles swell from W through to N, though NW is the optimal angle. The break operates on short ride lengths, typically under 50 metres, so expectation management is key. Access requires a 500m walk across deep sand from the pine-shaded car park - enough to filter casual visitors but not enough to thin the lineup meaningfully. Despite the walk, Casernes draws consistent crowds given the density of surfers along this coast. A surf school and board rental operate from the access point, and lifeguards are present in season, making it one of the more structured access points on the Seignosse beaches. The campsite-adjacent location brings a rotating cast of visiting surfers throughout summer.
