Cap de L'Homy sits within the commune of Lit-et-Mixe along the Landes coastline, a stretch of open Atlantic beachbreak that runs almost uninterrupted between the Gironde and the Basque Country. There is no actual cape here - just a long, straight sandy beach that catches swell angles from W through NW, with occasional N swells wrapping in. The waves are predominantly a-frame peaks breaking over a sand bottom, typically in the 0.3-0.9m range and rarely pushing above 2.4m even in solid winter groundswells. The depth profile favours well-covered, slopey walls with crumbly to occasionally steep sections rather than square barrels, and medium-tempo rides in the 50-100m bracket are the norm. Flat spots interrupt the surface on incoming tide and the peaks shift constantly, so reading the sandbanks before paddling out is worthwhile. The spot tends to perform best with a clean W or NW groundswell and a light offshore from the east, filtering out the messy wind chop that plagues this coast in summer. A surf school operates seasonally and a large campsite sits in the pine trees immediately behind the beach, giving the place a relaxed family feel through July and August. Outside peak summer, the crowd thins to almost nothing and the beach can feel genuinely isolated. There are no significant localism issues. Contis-Plage, 6km north, and St-Girons Plage, 10km south, provide alternatives when the sandbanks here are poorly shaped.
