Lespecier.

Lespecier is a low-key beachbreak on the Landes coast of southwest France, sitting between the busier resort towns of Mimizan to the north and Contis-Plage to the south. The break produces A-frame peaks across a wide stretch of open sand, offering both lefts and rights from shifting sandbars. The wave tends toward the mellow end of the spectrum — well-covered at the takeoff, with a slopey face and some steep sections that can get hollow under the right conditions. Wave length typically runs 50-100m, making it approachable for developing surfers. Incoming tide generally shapes the banks most favourably, though the spot holds surf across all tidal stages. It needs a solid NW swell to work properly and comes alive with an easterly wind keeping the face clean. Overhead surf tends to get disorganised and onshores make the place uninviting quickly. Access is via a single road from Bias through the Foret de Mimizan — the isolation is part of the appeal. Outside of the August holiday period, crowds are sparse and the beaches feel genuinely empty. There is no localism to speak of. Rip currents are a consistent presence along this coast and should be read carefully, particularly when surfing away from other people.
