La Salie.

La Salie is a beach break on the southern edge of the Bassin d'Arcachon, sitting technically within Gironde but widely considered the northern gateway to the Landes surfing stretch. The wave breaks as shifting a-frame peaks over a pure sand bottom, producing fast, hollow sections capable of genuine tubes when the banks align. Stormrider data shows a bowly, welling character with flat spots mixed in - meaning quality is highly bank-dependent and sessions at the same location can feel completely different within days. The most consistent banks cluster beside the 800m wharf structure, which provides a natural reference point and some degree of swell refraction. To the north, a punchier shorebreak section draws bodyboarders and those chasing short steep drops. Further south toward the blockhaus, additional bars form and can produce quality waves well away from the crowd focus near the jetty. The spot responds best to W swells from the Atlantic and fires in the 0.3m to 2.4m range, with optimal conditions at low to rising tide when the bars are most defined. Easterly winds are offshore. Despite the walk required to reach the water, the lineup draws consistent numbers - this is a well-known spot on a heavily surfed coastline. The wharf outfall pipe is a genuine concern, discharging foam and polluted water into the lineup, and swimming is officially prohibited near the discharge zone. On flat days, the nearby Dune du Pyla - at 117m the tallest sand dune in Europe - is worth the visit.
