Le Truc Vert.

Le Truc Vert sits on the Atlantic-facing side of the Cap-Ferret peninsula, where tidal currents running through the nearby Arcachon inlet funnel sand into reliable, well-shaped banks. The wave breaks as an a-frame peak over a sandy bottom, producing both lefts and rights with a bowly, hollow character - steep takeoffs that wall up quickly and run at a fast-to-medium pace across banks that can stretch 50-100m. The wave has genuine punch, welling up from shallow sections into hollow lips when the banks are dialled in. It works on any swell from SW through to NW, with a straight W swell typically delivering the most consistent results. Tides are non-critical and the spot functions across the full range, though the incoming tide tends to be referenced locally as particularly productive. The spot's name doubles as that of a large campsite directly behind the beach, which explains why it became the most recognised break on the peninsula - easy access has meant consistent surf traffic for decades. Entry is straightforward from the car park via a direct beach walk; no rock jumps or channel navigation required. The tradeoff is summer crowds concentrated in front of the access point. Strong rip currents and persistent lateral drift are the primary hazards - keep a fixed reference point on the dune line and be prepared to walk back up the beach. Neighbouring named banks to the south (La Garonne, La Vache Morte) offer uncrowded alternatives when this peak is overrun.
