Le Porge.

Le Porge is a beach break producing A-frame peaks over shifting sandbars along the open Gironde coast. The wave has a split personality tied closely to tide: at mid tide, well-formed A-frames pitch up with genuine punch, offering short but satisfying rides in the 50-100m range on both lefts and rights. The outside bank delivers steeper, faster walls when swell is solid, though it has a tendency to section and close out as size builds past 1.5m. At low tide the inside shallows up quickly, producing hollow, sucky drops that reward quick reflexes but punish hesitation. Shape data points to a steep, occasionally hollow wave with good drive off the top rather than grinding length. The spot fires best on W swells with a clean easterly offshore trimming the peaks. SW and NW groundswells also wrap in well given the exposed coastline orientation. As the nearest surf beach to Bordeaux, Le Porge draws consistent crowds through summer, with multiple access paths from the parking areas fanning surfers across different peaks - though this dispersal only partially dilutes the numbers. Currents run notably strong here and deserve respect, particularly on bigger tides. Checking conditions from the dunes before committing to a paddle-out is worthwhile. La Jenny, 4km south, offers an alternative when Le Porge banks are blown out or packed.
