L'Horizon.

L'Horizon is a sand-bottom beach break on the Atlantic-facing side of the Cap Ferret peninsula, one of a cluster of a dozen or so named spots spread along this stretch of coast. It produces a-frame peaks off shifting sandbars that can hold genuinely good shape, particularly during peaky W windswells at smaller sizes. The wave is generally well-covered and slopes through its mid-range, but fast steep sections open up as the banks tighten, making it more rewarding than its semi-secret status might suggest. It works across the full swell window from SW through to NW, with smaller, lower tides tending to sharpen up the banks. Offshore winds blow from the east. Best surf runs from 0.3m to around 2.4m before conditions deteriorate. The peninsula's geography creates swift north-to-south running currents that require attention - beach markers are posted specifically to help surfers gauge their speed. Submerged hazards including eroded jetty remains and old bunkers exist along sections of the coastline, so familiarity with the water here matters. Access from Arcachon is possible via the traditional pinnace ferry across the basin, connecting to the tramway that runs along the peninsula and stops at the beach. Carpark and roadside parking are available at multiple access points, along with surf schools and board hire. As swell size builds, conditions become genuinely unsuitable for beginners. The spot rarely draws a packed lineup, and with so many peaks spread across this stretch, there is little reason to share a bank.
