Tauro is a short but ferocious right-hand reef break wedged onto a supershallow rock ledge on the southwest headland of Gran Canaria, a few kilometres west of Arguineguin. The wave is essentially a single-section barrel: it pitches hard, runs square and fast over the ledge, and then forces an immediate kickout before the reef goes completely dry. There is no room for error and no gentle learning curve. The takeoff is an airdrop entry with thick, wedging power behind it, making the drop abrupt and commitment non-negotiable. The break is the exclusive domain of expert bodyboarders at high tide; even at optimal conditions the wave is brief, rarely stretching beyond 50 metres before closing out on the shelf. Swells from the SE through SW quadrant at 0.9 to 2.4 metres activate the break, with a northeast offshore wind cleaning the faces. Consistency is low - the spot needs a solid south or southwest pulse to switch on, and flat spells are the norm.
