Surf spot guide · Gran Canaria, Spain
Quality left reef barrel in front of Arinaga's old harbour, best on NE-E swell with low consistency but high reward.
La Izquierda del Muelle is a well-known reef break sitting directly in front of the old harbour at Arinaga, on Gran Canaria's south-east coast. A long left peels over a slab of uneven reef and sand, producing hollow barrel sections and a vertical takeoff that rewards surfers who commit early. The wave wraps and bowls, generating punchy mid-length rides in the 50-100m range. Swell frequency is low - proper NE-E swells that thread through the harbour gap are infrequent - but when conditions align with NE wind and a 0.9m or larger swell, the break delivers some of the most consistent barrel opportunities in Gran Canaria. Best surfed around the incoming tide when the reef is covered enough to minimise the risk from boils and shallow sections. There is also a lesser-known right breaking across the bay on bigger days. A car park at the harbour makes access easy, though crowds are consistently high when the spot is on, reflecting its reputation across the island.
