Tapia is a sandy beachbreak on the western Asturian coast, known for a semi-permanent left peak fed by a freshwater stream that concentrates the sandbank. The result is a hollow, fast wall that peels with more purpose than most regional beachbreaks. The wave fires on swells from west to north, NW the sweet spot, holding shape through the 1-2.4m range. The left is the headline: a vertical takeoff through hollow sections, best at mid-to-low outgoing tide. A-frame peaks spread across the beach on bigger swells, giving options when the main left closes out. Tapia has hosted national surf competitions and sits on the Spanish contest circuit, a mark of both wave quality and consistent year-round swell exposure. Some shelter from NE sea breezes arrives in summer via the surrounding cliffs. La Paloma, a smaller spot west of town, offers a quieter alternative when the main beach is maxed. Contest history has seeded a loyal local contingent and the lineup fills fast on any solid swell.
