Cueva is a west-facing sand-bottom beachbreak in the Valdés municipality of Asturias, offering two distinct set-up zones along the same stretch of beach. The eastern end produces right-handers peeling off a rivermouth sandbar, while the opposite end runs lefts - both peaks are fast with vertical takeoff sections and the occasional barrel section on the best days. The wave sits well-covered over a sandy floor, giving it a characteristically mellow feel between the faster walls, and it handles swell well up to and beyond 2m. A W-NW fetch is the engine here, with the spot responding best on pure NW groundswell. The beach faces directly into the Atlantic swell window and stays sheltered from the NE sea breezes that flatten other Asturian breaks during summer, giving it a consistency edge over most nearby options. Low to rising tide produces the cleanest banks and sharpest walls; by high water the peaks tend to fatten. Access is direct from the roadside above the beach with free parking. A seasonal lifeguard operates during summer.
