Surf spot guide · São Miguel, Portugal
Long boulder-jetty right on Sao Miguel south coast, delivering vertical walls up to 500m on S-SW swell.
Ribeira Quente Right is a long right that peels down the heavily armoured boulder jetty protecting the village of Ribeira Quente on the south coast of Sao Miguel. It takes a solid S to SW swell to push the break far enough out from the boulders; when everything lines up you get chunky, vertical walls and rides of up to 500 metres. The take-off is steep and vertical, rewarding committed intermediates who can handle unpredictable boulder-bottom sections. It runs best on S groundswell, with a northerly offshore cleaning the face. The break is consistent across all tides. Low crowd levels reflect the demanding size requirement; the wave is not very consistent and rarely ridden. Jellyfish are the only recorded hazard. Free roadside parking is available and access from the village road is straightforward. No facilities on site.

Near-solo conditions most sessions; the demanding size requirement and low consistency keep crowds away.
