Ponta Garca.

Ponta Garca breaks below basalt cliffs on Sao Miguels south coast, east of the village it shares a name with. The bottom is a mix of sand patches and uneven reef producing shifting a-frame peaks at a medium, manageable pace. Waves run 50-100m and stay well-covered - open enough for beginners to read and link turns without pressure. The swell window spans NE through S to W, including wrap-around NE groundswells that sneak around the islands eastern headlands; southerly windswells are the most common trigger. A northerly offshore cleans the surface and all tide stages are workable, with banks shifting slightly across the mixed bottom but the overall character holding. Access requires driving to the road end past the village then turning right for roadside parking. The lineup is usually near-empty: crowds are not a factor here. Ribeira Quente Left and Right sit 3km west and offer heavier reef options when surfers want more punch.
