Praia dos Mosteiros is a right-hand point break off the northern headland at Mosteiros village, on the northwest tip of Sao Miguel. Breaking over shallow, uneven reef, it produces steep performance walls with power in the pocket and rides that regularly stretch 50-100m - one of the longer waves on the island. Entry is straightforward from the headland, though the shallow reef requires care on the inside. The break takes swell from a wide SW-through-N window, with westerly groundswells producing the best-shaped lines. Easterly winds blow offshore and dominate through much of the year, giving the wave reliable presentation. Working swells in the 1-3m range suit it best - the spot handles size up to around 3.7m before sections close out. A left-hander breaks in the same bay and serves as a useful alternative. The remote northwest location keeps crowds very thin despite solid consistency.

Access is from the village of Mosteiros on the northwest coast of Sao Miguel. Free car park available. Unusually for the area, there is a lifeguard, showers and restrooms, with camping close by.
