Mosteiros Right.

Mosteiros Right is a righthand pointbreak on the north side of Mosteiros bay, at the northwest tip of Sao Miguel. Breaking over an uneven reef, it accepts swell from a 180-degree arc but lines up best on north and west swells. Rides stretch to 200-500 metres when conditions click, placing it among the longer point-style waves in the Azores. The wave is mid-paced with a steep, punchy character - walls push through rather than grind into barrels, rewarding carves and performance surfing. Shallow boils and dry-rock sections appear in the face across the tide cycle, demanding careful lineup reading. Mid to high tide covers the worst reef and gives the wave its most workable shape. Easterly winds are ideal. Currents build during NW swells and affect positioning in the water. The bay is unspoilt and rarely crowded, staying consistent through summer swells. Less punishing than the north coast reefs, it suits intermediates wanting a legitimate longer ride in a raw Atlantic setting.
