Mosteiros Left is a left-handing pointbreak on the rocky northwest tip of Sao Miguel Island, where the Atlantic delivers raw SW to W swells with little obstruction. The wave breaks over an uneven reef, producing fast, hollow walls that can hold performance sections between 1.2 and 3m. It works best at mid to high tide with a SE offshore, when the face cleans up and hollow sections link through. Outside this window the break turns patchy - only occasionally reaching its potential despite a reasonable swell frequency. Entry is direct from the shore over rock-strewn ground, so reading the set pattern and rip flow before paddling out is critical. Currents run with force along this stretch of coast and the shallow reef makes the inside section unforgiving on mistimed takeoffs. The surroundings are raw and remote with no facilities beyond a free carpark. Crowd pressure is minimal; this is a spot that rarely sees visitors and rewards patience over opportunism.
