Ferrel is a wide, exposed beach break stretching north from Peniche toward the village of Ferrel, built entirely on shifting sandbars that rearrange themselves with each significant swell. The wave is a medium-paced, slopey peak that throws up both lefts and rights, steepening on better swells without becoming aggressively hollow. Because the bars move constantly, the best section roams along the beach - what was the sweet spot last week may be flat today, and a walk up or down the strand is often rewarded. Runs on solid SW to NW swell, with NW being the sweet spot, and works across all tide stages, making it one of the more forgiving options in the Peniche zone when tide windows at spots like Supertubos are closing out. An easterly wind cleans it up well; any northerly component turns the surface messy fast. Consistency is high - the beach catches swell from a wide arc and rarely goes completely flat. Crowds are moderate by Peniche standards, drawing a mixed lineup of surf school groups and travelling surfers who use it as a warm-up or a fallback when the reefs are too heavy. Entry and exit are straightforward beach entries along the sandy shore. The main hazard is rip currents, which form between sandbars and run harder after bigger swells - read the water before paddling out.
