Parede is a temperamental right point that demands a narrow set of conditions to reveal its quality. The wave breaks over uneven reef and needs some southerly component in the swell - ideally SW to W - to wrap and hold shape. The window is tight: it fires in the two hours either side of mid tide on the incoming push, turning sectiony and gutless at low water and shutting down as the high approaches. When everything aligns, the right peels fast and hollow, with bowly sections driven by the wrapping swell and the reef's boils generating real punch. Wave lengths of 100-200m are achievable on the better sets. The break rarely fires - a low consistency score reflects months of flat or misdirected swell - which means the local crew knows its value. Visitors should expect a territorial reception; locals operate a clear priority system here and the environment text from Stormrider puts it plainly. Entry is off the rocky shoreline, so reading the reef before paddling out is non-negotiable. Submerged sections lurk below mid tide. The Estoril coast has other options nearby - Carcavelos to the east and Bafureira to the west - for days when Parede's window has closed.
