Monte Estoril is a righthander that peels off a jetty on the Costa do Estoril, breaking over a mixed bottom of uneven reef and sand. The wave is notably sectioney - it connects on the better swells but tends to wall and close out through certain sections on smaller days. What it lacks in mechanical perfection it compensates with range: the break handles everything from small, playful conditions up to serious size, making it one of the more versatile spots on this stretch of coastline. West winds expose the lineup and knock the shape apart, but the prevailing northeasters of the region typically groom it well. SW to W swell windows are optimal, and the spot can be surfed at any stage of the tide, with the incoming tide the most productive phase. Relative to its neighbours - Bolina, Tamariz and Poça sit within a kilometre - Monte Estoril tends to draw smaller crowds and offers a quieter alternative when those breaks are packed. Localism exists at mild-to-moderate levels, as it does across the broader Estoril coast. Water quality is a genuine concern: residential and sewage outflows affect the area, a problem that worsens after rainfall. Entry is straightforward from the beach adjacent to the jetty structure.
