Green Meadows.

Green Meadows is a long right point break that peels over uneven reef along a rocky headland roughly 3km south of Opunake on the Taranaki coast. The wave typically breaks in three distinct sections, with the inside producing the hollower barrels while the outside walls up with bowly, welling power. Vertical takeoffs and fast connections between sections demand speed and precise positioning - this is a wave that punishes hesitation. A wide swell window from SE through to NW means it picks up energy easily, though a solid SW groundswell lights up the best walls. Low tide is essential; any higher and the reef drowns out. Access involves parking on State Highway 45 just past Waitino Road and following a creek path roughly half a kilometre down to the beach. The lineup rarely sees more than a handful of surfers, partly due to the walk and partly because the wave demands experience. Sharks patrol this stretch of coast, and submerged rocks and strong rips add to the hazard list. Several other reef setups dot this section of coastline for those willing to explore.
