Desperation Point.

A cluster of shifting peaks breaking over a large uneven reef off the southern headland at Opunake. The wave comes alive on solid south to southwest swells, producing powerful, steep walls with hollow sections that jack up fast over the shallow reef. Multiple takeoff zones shift constantly, making lineup positioning a guessing game that rewards patience and local knowledge. The reef sits well offshore, requiring a long paddle out and making it difficult to find reference points on land. Once overhead, the wave packs serious punch with vertical takeoffs and fast-moving faces that suit experienced surfers comfortable in consequential conditions. Low tide draws the best shape, with the reef creating defined walls rather than the broken-up peaks that appear at higher water. South or westerly winds shut it down completely, so clean sessions depend on northeast airflow. Despite handling swells up to fifteen feet, the remote nature and demanding conditions keep the lineup virtually empty most sessions.
