A short, intense right-hander that breaks over dead coral reef just behind the boat harbour in Labuhan Bajau. The wave is bowly and fast with critical air-drop takeoffs, producing barrel sections when a solid SW swell lines up at high tide. The reef is dangerously shallow, with dry sucks and boils marking the shallowest spots, so this is strictly a tube-riding wave for experienced surfers who can handle the consequences of a wipeout on dead coral. Thailand Right sits on Simeulue's east coast, one of a cluster of quality reef passes in the Labuhan Bajau area. It only works with a specific SW swell angle, which limits its consistency considerably. When conditions align, the wave offers excellent short barrels in the 1-3m range, but windows are narrow and infrequent. Entry is via a paddle from the harbour, which provides a channel around the worst of the raised reef. Local fishermen at the harbour can also arrange boat transport to nearby Thailand Left. The lineup stays quiet most of the time due to the combination of remote location, fickle conditions, and the intimidation factor of the shallow reef. Westerly winds are offshore here, making early mornings before the sea breeze the best call.
