Surf spot guide · Lombok, Indonesia
Tanjung A'an is a scenic bay near Kuta Lombok featuring a mellow A-frame reef break with both left and right waves, ideal for beginners and intermediates.
Tanjung A'an is a picturesque bay on Lombok's south coast, about 15 minutes east of Kuta Lombok, featuring a horseshoe-shaped bay with white sand and turquoise water. The spot offers multiple reef breaks with playful, rippable waves, including an A-frame reef break that produces mellow waves ideal for beginners and intermediates. On smaller days, the inside section is gentle and great for learning, while the outside can be faster and more challenging. The spot works best with a medium tide and south-to-southwest swells, providing long rides suitable for various levels. Access is easy with a paddle-out from the beach, and the area has a relaxed vibe with basic amenities. While less crowded than Kuta Lombok, it can get busier during peak season. Surfers should exercise caution due to the sharp reef and occasional strong currents, especially at lower tides. The turquoise water and white sand beach add to its appeal.

Serene and relaxed atmosphere
The main reef sits about 490 metres off the middle of the beach, so you either paddle out or hire a boat for around 25,000 IDR.
The right peels slowly and wants mid tide, while the left on the east side needs half to full tide because the reef shelf under it is shallow.
Anything over three foot turns the reef on, and the dry season from April to October runs a foot or two bigger than that.
The separate Tanjung Aan right on the reef point by the cliffs only switches on with a five to eight foot groundswell, and it is expert territory when it does.
