The spot is exposed to south and southwest swells, providing reliable surf especially during the dry season, with waves typically offering short rides under 50 meters. It works best during medium to high tides and when winds come from the north, northwest, or northeast. Access involves a short walk from the nearby Novotel Lombok Resort & Villas, though a 4×4 vehicle may be needed to reach the area. While the lineup is generally relaxed and welcoming with low crowd levels, surfers should watch for hazards such as shallow sections, rocks, sea urchins, and occasional strong currents. Early mornings remain the quietest times to surf.

At high tide the wave is longer with a shoulder and no speed section; the fast, hollow inside comes in on the lower half of the tide.
The reef is razor sharp, so do not try a last manoeuvre on a closing section.
Getting in at low tide is an easy barefoot walk, but getting back out over the exposed reef is not.
There is a short, punchy left at the reef gap in the middle of the bay on the higher tides.
