Surf spot guide · Lombok, Indonesia
Gerupuk Bay's mellow A-frame reef break, accessible mainly by boat, offers gentle takeoffs on larger swells and is ideal for beginners and intermediates, usually with a lighter crowd than Inside Gerupuk.
DonDon comes to life only on medium to large swells (around 5 ft and up), forming a fun A-frame peak that breaks both left and right. The left wave tends to be steeper while the right is more forgiving, offering easy takeoffs and long rides ideal for practicing turns and skill progression. It's surfable for beginners moving up from Inside Gerupuk and enjoyable for intermediates when it's big, thanks to forgiving wipeouts over relatively deep reef. Access is typically via a short boat ride from Gerupuk village, though paddling is possible but more challenging. The lineup is usually lighter than at Inside Gerupuk, though it remains a popular stop when working, set amid panoramic bay views framed by Lombok’s lush hills, and it is especially popular during the dry season when conditions are most consistent.
Steeper left, forgiving right: A-frame peaks that wake only in medium swells.
