Selong Belanak Surf Spot Guide — Lombok, Indonesia

Selong Belanak is surfable year-round, but it shines on a mid tide with a waist-high (3-5 ft) swell that produces long, gentle rollers. Early mornings have glassy, clean waves and a quieter lineup, while mid-morning tends to be busy with surf schools and instructors offering lessons and rentals. The waves break over a gradual sandy bottom, offering forgiving whitewater and soft shoulders that are perfect for practicing pop-ups and basic turns. Intermediates can also have fun here, catching slightly steeper inside sections without fear of heavy consequences. There are virtually no hard hazards: no reef or rocks, only an occasional strong shorebreak on bigger swells and a mild rip on an outgoing tide. Overall, it is an extremely accessible break (about 30 minutes from Kuta by road) with a stunning backdrop of turquoise water and white sand, a relaxed, friendly vibe, and a lively atmosphere popular with beginner surfers.
