Surf spot guide · Lombok, Indonesia
Belongas is a remote bay in southwestern Lombok featuring powerful left and right reef breaks that offer challenging waves for experienced surfers amid stunning scenery.
Belongas is a world-renowned reef break situated on Lombok’s rugged southwestern coast, popular for its heavy, barreling waves and raw beauty. The spot features two main reef breaks: a short, punchy right-hander and a longer, hollow left-hander, offering varied wave options. It is exposed to strong Indian Ocean swells, delivering consistent, powerful surf best suited for intermediate to advanced riders. Access is challenging, typically requiring a boat trip from the harbor, which contributes to its uncrowded, adventurous vibe. The area is known for its pristine beaches, clear waters, and lush hills, enhancing the remote and wild atmosphere. Surfers should be cautious of strong currents, sharp coral reefs, and the occasional presence of sharks, making it a hazardous spot especially on bigger swells. Belongas is best surfed during the wet season when conditions align for its legendary barrels.
