Desert Point Surf Spot Guide — Lombok, Indonesia

Desert Point, also known as Bangko-Bangko, is a remote surf spot located on the southwestern tip of Lombok, Indonesia. It is renowned for its exceptionally long, hollow left-hand barrels that can extend up to 300 meters with multiple challenging barrel sections, attracting advanced surfers worldwide. The wave is highly fickle and only comes alive with a significant southwest groundswell combined with precise low-tide conditions, making ideal surf sessions rare and highly dependent on swell and tide. Access to Desert Point is difficult, involving a combination of overland travel and sometimes boat rides, with careful navigation required over a sharp, shallow coral reef. Hazards include dangerous wipeouts, strong currents, and the intense localism common in the lineup. Despite its remoteness, the spot can become heavily crowded when conditions align, so respect, etiquette, and local knowledge are essential for safety. When everything comes together, Desert Point offers some of the best barrels in Indonesia.
