Surf spot guide · Lombok, Indonesia
Senggigi on Lombok’s west coast features a powerful right-hand reef break best suited for intermediate and advanced surfers during big south swells.
Senggigi is a scenic beach break located near the main tourist hub of Lombok. The waves are generally mellow and best suited for beginners and intermediate surfers, especially during mid to high tide, with a sandy bottom and scattered rocks that keep hazards moderate. However, just offshore lies Senggigi Reef, a high-performance, hollow right-hander that comes alive during large south or southwest swells, particularly in the dry season. This wave breaks over a sharp coral reef, offering steep, fast, and sometimes long rides that demand experience due to the challenging take-off and exposed reef. Access to the reef requires a deep-water paddle, and while the lineup is generally friendly, it can become busy when conditions are prime. Senggigi remains less crowded than Bali’s hotspots and provides easy access to facilities and board rentals, making it a great place for both learning and advanced surfing, as well as a popular base for surf trips and other activities.
