Surf spot guide · Bali, Indonesia
Ceningan is a swell-magnet point break on Nusa Ceningan featuring fun, approachable waves with strong currents and scenic island views.
Ceningan is a renowned point break located at the westernmost tip of Nusa Ceningan, southeast of Bali, accessible via a bridge from Nusa Lembongan. The wave is fast, hollow, and can get heavy on bigger swells, attracting experienced surfers seeking barrels, but it is also considered approachable by Indonesian standards. It offers long peeling waves that can run for 80-100 meters, with wedging take-offs near an overhanging rock formation. The spot is exposed and works best during the dry season on smaller swells and low tide, with offshore winds from the southeast to northeast. A heavy current runs through the inside, which can aid paddle-outs and returns when used near the beach, though it also presents a hazard alongside the sharp, shallow reef, especially at low tide. Access involves navigating over the reef and under the headland, typically by boat or a short walk from the island. The scenery is stunning, and while crowds can be moderate, they are usually less intense than at main Bali spots.
A wrapping left off Ceningan's southwest tip, rolling walls into very deep water.
