Sunzal is a long right-hand point break that wraps over a shelf of cobblestones and boulders on the Costa del Balsamo. A deep-water outside peak sets up first, feeding into walls and shoulders that carry riders for 200 to 500m before fading into the bay. The wave starts with a bit of punch on the takeoff then mellows into carveable faces, which is why it draws longboarders and intermediates from across the country. Any S to SW swell gets something breaking here, and the deep approach keeps the shape holding even when the swell jumps in size. The spot served as one of two podiums for the 2021 ISA World Surfing Games alongside neighbouring La Bocana, cementing its place as a showcase Central American point. Entry is a 300m paddle through a friendly channel off the cobble beach, reached on foot from El Tunco or through the beachfront hotels and restaurants fronting the point. Expect company: San Salvador weekend crowds, longboarders, and surf-school groups all share the lineup, though rotation stays manageable with a bit of patience.
