Surf spot guide Β· Costa del Balsamo, El Salvador
Left-hand reef peak beside La Libertad's fishing pier, beginner-friendly and breaking when the points out of town are flat.
El Muelle breaks as a left-hand peak off the concrete fishing pier in the middle of La Libertad town, set between the La Paz section and world-famous Punta Roca. The wave peels over an uneven bottom of reef and sand, shaping up into medium-paced walls with the occasional hollow section on steeper takeoffs. It runs 50-100m on a good day and handles anything from knee-high to head-and-a-half, which makes it one of the more forgiving lineups on this stretch of coast. The pier itself is the reference point, a busy working structure used by the local fishing fleet, and the break sits right at its base. Paddle out is straightforward from the town beach beside the pier. Realities to accept: the water is polluted, a sewage outflow empties near the lineup, and the smell and debris from pier operations are part of the daily experience. The peak gets crowded with local kids and learners since it works almost every swell that reaches the coast. When Punta Roca needs more size, El Muelle is already firing.
Hollow peaks off the working pier where La Libertad's sewage smell meets forgiving walls.

Frequently packed with local kids and beginners since the peak works when bigger points are flat. Space is tight between the pier and the sewage outflow.
