Punta Roca is a cobblestone right-hand pointbreak that pitches, walls and runs fast over shallow black boulders off the headland at La Libertad. The ride strings three zones: La Punta at the top, where hollow sections and vertical takeoffs set the tone, a middle wall fronting the cemetery, and an inside cove called La Paz that offers a softer shoulder on smaller days. Set waves can run 200 to 500 metres when swell and wind align. Medium SW pulses produce inviting open faces and leg-burning connections, while double-overhead swells ramp up the drops and raw power. The wave cemented its reputation as one of the Americas' benchmark points after featuring in the 1978 film Big Wednesday. Entry is a long paddle from the rocks near the town restaurants, bypassing sharp cobbles and the armed robbery risk on the walk out. The lineup packs out at size, with peak pressure on weekends and mornings, and afternoons offering the cleanest shot at the best sets.
