Jetty-segmented Jersey Shore beachbreak with shifting peaks that turn hollow on low to mid tide.
Bradley Beach is a string of sand peaks tucked between concentrated rock jetties along the Ocean Grove to Avon stretch of the New Jersey shore. The groynes corral the longshore drift and stack sandbars on either side, producing short, steep left and right peaks that fire hollow on the right banks and stay punchy through the medium-speed shoulder. The wave is fickle: banks reshape with every storm, sizes typically run smaller than breaks further south down the coast, and a moderate NE through S swell with a westerly offshore is needed to line things up. Low to mid tide on the outgoing push pulls water off the inside and exposes the steepest takeoff, while higher water tends to flatten the bowls. Jetties shorten the paddle and break up the drift, which is part of why the lineup suits all abilities and why a contingent of local longboarders posts up on the main peaks and chips away at the wave count.
