Belmar Fishing Pier breaks on the south side of Shark River Inlet, in the gap between the inlet's stone jetty and the weathered pier itself. The sand-bottom peak runs hollow, steep and quick when it's on, with short barrel sections feeding into a fast wall, but the banks shift constantly and most days the wave is closed out, fat or simply not there. It needs a clean NE or E swell pushing into the inlet and a low to mid tide on the outgoing cycle, ideally with a westerly offshore to hold up the faces. The setup belongs to the broader Jersey Shore winter window, working hardest on hurricane swells and northeasters when neighbouring beach breaks are blown out or maxing. Access is dead easy: pull up to the metered roadside parking along the seawall and check it over the wall before suiting up. The crowd is light because the bank rarely fires, but locals will be on it the moment it does, and pier rules and beach tags apply in season.
