Surf spot guide · NYC Tri-State, United States
Crescent-jetty left in Allenhurst that bends fast, bowly sections out of solid winter NE swells at low tide.
The Wedge is a sand-bottom jetty break in Allenhurst, on the stretch of New Jersey coast running from Long Branch through Deal to Loch Arbour. Waves wrap around a crescent-shaped jetty and peel left with steep, bowly sections that fire on solid NE winter swells through low to mid tide. The wave is short, fast and hollow when conditions stack up, with vertical, critical take-offs near the jetty and shallow inside sections that can throw the odd surprise rock. A westerly offshore cleans the faces. The Wedge is one of the more coveted jetty waves in this part of the Tri-State, which is why the take-off zone stays busy whenever it breaks. Access is awkward: there is no parking near the beach, and the closest legal option is the main street about 0.8km inland. The neighbourhood carries a private swim club feel through summer and a regulars-only undercurrent year round. When it is too crowded, Hathaway Beach, Loch Arbour and the Deal jetties offer comparable sandbars nearby.

Always crowded in the tight take-off zone whenever it breaks, with a tight roster of locals running the peak. Expect to wait and earn waves rather than freelance.
