Playa Blanca is a south-facing town beachbreak in Puerto del Carmen, sat in front of the resort strip and not to be confused with the wave-less Playa Blanca resort further south. The peaks are sand-bottom, medium-paced and crumbly with the odd steeper takeoff, working as shifting lefts and rights rather than a fixed bank. The break only switches on during screaming onshore Sirocco easterlies or the strongest N to NE windswell, so it sits flat most of the year and gets dismissed by anyone chasing real Lanzarote reefs on the north shore. The local nickname Mac-a-Dee's points straight to the best peak, the one breaking in front of the McDonalds on the promenade. Access is walk-on from the seafront with paid and free parking nearby, plus surf shops, showers and restrooms on the strip. The catch is the lifeguards: when waves do show, the beach typically goes red flag, and surfers are expected to ask permission before paddling out. Locals tolerate visitors who follow that protocol.
