Sand-bottom beachbreak in front of Puerto del Carmen that only wakes up on strong N-E winds funnelling swell down the east coast.
Los Piccolos sits on the long crescent of sand fronting Puerto del Carmen on the south coast of Lanzarote and is a low-consistency beachbreak that needs a specific setup to fire. The wave is a mix of left and right peaks breaking over sand, with crumbly faces, occasional steeper sections and a half-decent longboard wave at the northern end of the beach. It only really comes alive when strong N to E winds push swell down the east coast and into the bay, which is the same window when neighbouring Playa Blanca starts to register. Exposure is better here than at Playa Blanca, but the wave still leans slow and slopey, with well-covered flat spots between the peaks rather than long open walls. Sizes typically run between 0.3m and 1.2m on the brk_sizemin and brk_sizemax range, with a wave length around 50 to 100m. The setup is fully resort-fronted, with multi-lingual lifeguards on the sand, restrooms, showers and a surf shop nearby, plus a free car park and roadside parking along the seafront. Watch for rip currents along the crescent and respect the regulars in the line-up.
