Surf spot guide Β· North Portugal, Portugal
Powerful, hollow right-hand reef break for expert surfers near Vila Nova de Gaia.
Ilha de Salgueiros is a distinct wave from Praia de Salgueiros and the nearby Salgueiros sections. It is a right-hand reef break over flat rocks, producing hollow, fast and powerful waves with rides of roughly 50-150 metres. The wave begins working around 1-1.5 metres of swell and can hold beyond 3 metres. West to Northwest swells and easterly winds provide the most favourable setup. This is an advanced-only wave for experienced surfers comfortable with shallow, rocky takeoffs.
