Fast, hollow reef waves at Valadares with lefts, rights, and long rides.
Praia Atlântico is a regional-classic reef-and-sand break at Valadares, producing both lefts and rights. Waves are hollow, fast, and powerful, with typical rides of 50-150 metres and longer waves reaching 150-300 metres on good days. It starts working around 1-1.5 metres of swell and can hold waves above 3 metres. Mid to high tide is the safer usual range because sharp rocks become covered, although the break is surfable throughout the tide cycle. Access is public and easy from the Gaia coast, with parking along Avenida Gago Coutinho.
