Aguçadoura.

Aguçadoura is a vast, west-facing stretch of sandy beach on the northern Portuguese coast that intercepts virtually any Atlantic swell arriving between SW and N. The beach generates shifting peaks up and down the shore, offering both lefts and rights depending on where the sandbanks have settled. The wave shape leans hollow when conditions are clean, though the break can max out quickly on bigger swells and loses its shape above the upper end of its comfortable range. No single section dominates - different banks produce different rides at different stages of the tide, rewarding exploration rather than fixed take-off spots. Consistent Atlantic groundswells keep it working roughly seven days out of ten, making it one of the more reliable stretches on this coastline. Crowds are genuinely rare given the length of beach available, with most sessions involving just a handful of surfers spread across multiple peaks. Entry is straightforward from the beach with no rock hazards. Free parking is available in a car park directly behind the beach. The water quality is notably clean for an Atlantic beach break. Strong rip currents run on bigger days and need monitoring, particularly for less experienced surfers - these are best used as a paddle-out channel rather than fought against.
