Azurara sits on the beach of the same name immediately south of Vila do Conde, offering a handful of shifting A-frame peaks over a sandy bottom. The waves are modest in quality but reliably present, picking up swell across a broad window from S through NW and breaking across all tides, making the spot more forgiving than most on this stretch of coast. The Mondo data notes a faster, occasionally hollow left in the middle of the beach on good days alongside a righthander, giving intermediates something to work with when conditions align. The shorebreak draws bodyboarders and is a defining feature of the spot. Azurara is notable as the first beach north of Porto with genuinely clean water, which adds to its draw for those coming out of the city. Wave faces run short - typically under 50 metres - and the peaks shift with the sandbanks, so reading the lineup before paddling out pays off. Rip currents are present and a degree of localism exists, so new arrivals should take a moment to observe the pecking order. Nearby Mindelo and Vila do Conde offer alternative setups when the banks here are not cooperating.
