Surf spot guide · Lisbon, Portugal
Esquerda da Bafureira is a powerful left-hand reef break near Lisbon with challenging, consistent waves.
Esquerda da Bafureira is a renowned left-hand reef break located in the Carcavelos area, just outside Lisbon. The wave is punchy and often hollow, breaking over a rocky reef and providing fast, challenging rides for experienced surfers. Best surfed on a rising to mid tide with a solid west or southwest swell, the spot can produce long, barreling sections but is unforgiving at low tide. Local crowds are common, especially on weekends and during prime swell windows. Hazards include submerged rocks, strong currents, and a shallow takeoff zone. The spot is not suited for beginners due to its power and reef setup.
