Cabedelo.

Cabedelo is a right-hand sand-bottom wedge that breaks against the southern flank of a long jetty at the mouth of the Mondego river, just south of Figueira da Foz. The jetty wall deflects incoming swell energy and produces a steep, fast takeoff that quickly throws into hollow sections - a combination of bowly geometry, wedging, and genuine speed that rewards committed surfing. Rides run 50-100m before the wave backs off toward the beach. The break fired well enough in the 1990s to host WCT competition, and that pedigree has kept it on every travelling surfer's radar along the Portuguese central coast. It works across a wide size range - roughly 0.6m up to 3m - but performs best on a solid NW swell with NE winds funnelling offshore along the coast. Incoming tide from low to mid is the sweet spot; too much water and the wedge loses its punch. The rip alongside the jetty makes paddle-out efficient, but that same current can catch surfers off-guard on the way in. River pollution is a documented issue, particularly after rainfall. The local crew is well-established and territorial - crowds are a constant here, so read the pecking order before going.
