Beliche.

Beliche is a sheltered cove beach break tucked below the cliffs west of Sagres, producing a standout left wedge that bowls up off the sandbank and fires with real punch. The wave is hollow and fast from takeoff, wedging off a shallow sand bottom with enough power to handle solid double-overhead surf without losing its shape. It also produces a right, but the left is the reason surfers make the trip. The spot needs either a hefty NW swell to wrap into the cove or a straightforward S-SW groundswell to light up, and it sits offshore on N to NE winds. Consistency is good by Algarve standards, and when the swell window aligns it delivers one of the best waves on the southwest tip of Portugal. Access requires descending a long flight of steep steps cut into the cliff face - factor that into your energy before paddling out. Bodyboarders dominate on bigger days when the wedge goes full throttle, and bodysurfers appear when it really cranks. The local crew is tight-knit and protective of the break; surfers arriving out of their depth or without etiquette will feel it. Crowds are heavy when conditions fire.
