Praia Castelejo is a remote sand-bottom beach break on Portugal's west-facing Costa Vicentina, tucked beneath towering cliffs north of Sagres. The break produces both lefts and rights off shifting peaks, with the best banks typically forming in the mid-to-upper beach zone. Waves here are fast and hollow relative to the exposed beachbreak norm - the power_obj data shows bowly, wedging shape with a fast peel - and the spot picks up virtually any swell direction from SW through to N, making it one of the most consistent stretches in the Algarve. Autumn is the prime window: summer storms progressively rebuild sandbars destroyed by winter swells, and the milder autumn swell period finds those banks at their best. Despite the cliff height, the beach sits fully exposed to wind and needs easterly or anywhere from S through NE to stay clean. Surf schools operate here regularly given its forgiving inside sections on smaller days, though bigger autumn swells produce powerful walls that reward more experienced surfers. A rocky outcrop at the southern end marks the divide from neighbouring Cordoama, and rips around this section strengthen as swell builds. Free car park at the clifftop with a track leading down to the beach. At sub-head-high sizes the beach handles most ability levels comfortably.
