Salema is a sheltered, swell-selective beach break on the south-facing Praia da Salema. Shifting sandy peaks produce lefts, rights and soft A-frames, while rare southerly swell can create a longer wall across the bay. It generally needs substantial swell and works best from autumn through early spring, with rideable surf commonly around 2-6 feet. The wave suits beginners, improvers, foamies and longboards when mellow, but larger surf can bring rips and a dumping shorebreak. Paddle-outs are generally easy, and the beachfront has straightforward village access.
